Economic Development

Job creation strategies have been a core part of Englewood CDC since our inception. A lead neighborhood partner for economic development and job creation in the Englewood Great Places 2020 area, IndyEast Promise Zone, and East Washington Street Partnership, we have developed very real capacities and offerings around assisting entrepreneurs, helping businesses grow and creating good jobs for local neighbors.

Over the last seven years, Englewood CDC has received and successfully administered four separate federal grants related to job creation that have resulted in the creation and retention of more than 300 new jobs. In addition, our development activities have directly created 50 jobs along the East Washington Street corridor, including the $38 million redevelopment of the PR Mallory campus and our own social enterprise, Uplift Produce, a 40,000 square-foot indoor farm developed as a joint venture with the Dutch company (PlantLab).

Our Programs

Equitable Economic Development

Inclusive development of neighborhoods, districts/corridors and specific real estate projects. This work is often typified through participation in collective impact strategies (examples: Great Places 2020 (link) and IndyEast Promise Zone (link)) with numerous partners.

Job Creation/Social Enterprise

Numerous initiatives to assist businesses to create jobs for low-income persons or to create or assist social enterprises like Uplift Produce. In addition, Englewood CDC is involved in connecting students from the schools at PR Mallory to jobs at local businesses and internship opportunities to provide a mutually beneficial relationship for the business and student.

Business Assistance

Englewood CDC plays a unique role in assisting businesses along the East Washington Street corridor and on the Near Eastside. This includes access to funding opportunities and programs like LISC’s business facade program.
