Scattered Site Rental Houses
Varies
Englewood CDC operates +/- 30 units of scattered-site rental properties, in renovated single- and double-family homes, returning previously vacant homes to productive use, and providing affordable rental units to Near Eastside neighbors.
Englewood CDC recently built 20 new construction duplexes throughout the neighborhood that provide 40 affordable housing units for rent in our neighborhood. These properties, called Englewood Homes, are funded through Rental Housing Tax Credits and with grant funds from the City of Indianapolis. One of these homes is the Alley House, a net-positive energy home designed by Ball State University Architecture students. This home received the overall Solar Decathlon Award for the Build Challenge in 2023. The home was built by Cedar Street Builders and includes a number of unique green features.

Description/highlights:
Englewood CDC got its start with volunteers renovating abandoned or unproductive homes in the neighborhood and church members putting in both sweat and financial equity into these homes in order to make a difference for the neighborhood and those who lived there. Many of the homes on the first block of Oxford Street were redeveloped in this way and rented or sold.
Englewood CDC now owns and rents homes throughout the neighborhood – some with income restrictions and some without. These units have a low turnover rate but do come up for rent once in a while. Englewood CDC believes this is a crucial piece of affordable housing development and maintenance in an ever changing City and neighborhood.
